Genetically modified organisms-hidden ingredients in our food. We all would like to know what is in our food we are eating every day. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are in 70%-90% processed foods in America (Chrispeels, M. J. 2014), but no-one knows which foods contain these organisms because biotech and food industries spend a lot of money and effort to hide this information from the consumers. Genetically modified food should be labeled because they are not as safe for human consumption as claimed by Monsanto and other biotechnology companies. GMO s are living organisms whose genetic make-ups have been artificially manipulated by inserting or deleting genes. (Goldbas, 2014) This kind of gene manipulation is relatively new science and creates a plant, animal gene combinations which do not occur in nature. GMOs are created to tolerate pesticides and herbicides without killing the plant itself. Monsanto and other biotech companies claim that these organisms are perfectly safe for human consumption and claim that Americans have been consuming such foods since 1996, but scientists opposing GMOs argue that an epidemiological study investigating risk to a human health has never been done, which proves that the GMO safety has no scientific basis (Hilbeck, A., Binimelis, R., Defarge, N., Steinbrecher, R., S., A., Wickson, F., Antoniou, M., Bereano, L.P.,Cark,E.A.,Hansen, M., Novotny, E., Heinemann, J., Meier, H., Shiva,V., Wynne, B. 2015).
